 | Why was CANtreat started?
After being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on 17th December 2004, Andrew Gartside underwent 6 months of treatment and has now received the 'all clear'. Since then he has been devoted to CANtreat and achieving the aims of the Charity as one of the Trustees.
The first visit to a chemotherapy clinic can be a terrifying experience, and to have it administered in a tired, old medical ward really can hit the morale of a patient. This comes at a time when the patients mental attitude to their disease is of crucial importance. If a patients treatment is administered within an emotionally comforting environment, perhaps with the moral support of other patients in a group situation, without the atmosphere of a medical ward, it can strengthen the resolve to fight the illness.

What is CANtreat?
Positive environments produce positive attitudes! Turning a cancer sufferers feelings from the initial shock, fear and bewilderment into determination, survival and understanding is a complicated process. Family and friends play a large part. The support and care of medical staff plays another.
Underlining all this is the environment in which a patient receives treatment. Believing that the environment plays a significant role in strengthening a patient's resolve to fight cancer, our sole objective at CANtreat is to improve the quality of the treatment environment for all NHS cancer patients.
